Manuel de Falla's La vida breve (The Short Life) is a short opera that manages to pack in the essential element of grand opera: the grandiose death of the spurned lover at the finale. The class divide between the gypsy woman Salud and her well-to-do love object Paco, and the final confrontation at Paco's wedding to a woman of his own class, bring extra spice to the doomed-love formula.
Semi-staged performance with NEC's top singers and the NEC Philharmonia, conducted by Douglas Kinney Frost, and directed by NEC's Opera Studies chair, Joshua Major. The opera will be performed in Spanish, with English surtitles.
